The principal aim of the Trust is to protect St Mawes harbour and its marine habitats. The waters of the harbour are enjoyed by a wide range of people and host a diversity of activities. Beneath the surface are large seagrass meadows and maerl beds that combine to create a site of significant marine importance. The Trust aims to ensure that the harbour is enjoyed by all its users without threatening its unusual biodiversity.

St Mawes Harbour Marine Habitats Study
The St Mawes Harbour Marine Habitats Study revealed the exceptional ecological importance of the harbour’s seabed. It mapped rare maerl beds and seagrass meadows – two of the UK’s most biodiverse marine habitats – and documented their role in supporting countless species. This groundbreaking research provides vital data to guide conservation efforts and protect these fragile ecosystems for the future.
